A franchise is sold for a place. Before you go far with a brand, you need to know whether your place is open. That is what a territory request is for.
From a brand page or your Match Hub, you name the area you want: a city, a set of ZIP codes, or a description. Your coach sends the request to the brand's franchise team, they check their map, and the answer comes back to your portal. Your coach records it against your deal.
Submitted. Your request is in.
Checking. Your coach has asked the brand and is waiting on them.
Available. The brand can offer the area, with any notes they added.
Unavailable. The area is taken or not open, with the reason when the brand gives one.
You are notified when the status changes.
Territory availability changes daily and most brands do not publish it. A map on this site would be wrong within weeks. The request loop is slower and it's accurate, and it opens a conversation with the brand, which is worth having anyway.
It means the brand is willing to discuss that area with you now. It's not a reservation. Territory is committed in the franchise agreement, and Item 12 of the FDD sets out what protection you get once you sign.
Territory availability is one of the six factors. A request that comes back Available lifts the score; one that comes back Unavailable lowers it. Ask early, so the scores you are comparing reflect places you can actually open.
