Discovery Day and the offer

The visit to headquarters, what both sides are deciding, and what signing the franchise agreement means.

Updated Sep 26 · 1 minute read

Discovery Day (some brands call it Confirmation Day or Meet the Team Day) is the visit to the brand's headquarters. It opens the last step, Signing.

What happens

You spend a day, sometimes two, with the people who will support you: the leadership team, training, marketing, operations. You see the systems you have read about. You ask everything you still want to ask, face to face.

What both sides are deciding

You are deciding whether you want to work with these people for the length of the franchise term. They are deciding whether to offer you the franchise. Brands do say no at this stage, and buyers do too. That is what the day is for.

Before you go

  • Have your financing in principle. Brands expect it by this point.

  • Finish your validation calls, so your questions are sharp.

  • Read the FDD once more, particularly the franchise agreement in the exhibits.

  • Tell your coach your remaining doubts. They have usually heard them from other buyers and knows which ones matter.

The offer

If the brand offers you the franchise, you review the franchise agreement with your lawyer, arrange the final funding, and sign. Under the FTC Franchise Rule, a franchisor must have given you the FDD at least 14 calendar days before you sign a binding agreement or pay any money, so the timeline from offer to signature is rarely shorter than that.

After you sign

Your coach records the placement. Your relationship with them does not end there: your portal, your documents and your messages stay where they are, and they stay reachable through training and opening.
